The Story Behind Spenny Wise's Seamless Experience
context
In early 2022, as financial markets grew increasingly volatile, our team at Spenny set out to create a safer, more reliable investment option for our users. The result was Spenny Wise – a peer-to-peer investment product offering up to 10% annual returns with low risk, designed to be both accessible and trustworthy.
As the design lead, I was deeply involved from concept to launch. Initially, I focused on guiding the team and maintaining design consistency. As the project evolved, my role became more hands-on, directly addressing user feedback and iterating on features, including the introduction of a SIP option for recurring investments.
challenge
A critical challenge was building user trust in a new investment product. We tackled this by making the onboarding process simple and transparent. For new users, we introduced a streamlined 'Mini KYC' – reducing onboarding to three quick steps, while existing users could start investing immediately. Our design emphasized clarity, with daily interest updates, easy withdrawals, and educational touchpoints throughout the user journey.

Designing for Clarity & Trust
One of the key challenges with Wise was explaining the product's benefits without overwhelming the user. We took a content-first, visual storytelling approach to highlight its unique advantages — such as daily interest, a short 7-day lock-in, and a low entry point of ₹100 (which we intentionally kept subtle to maintain business viability).
To reinforce transparency and help users understand their potential returns, we built an interest calculator directly into the Wise screen. This let users explore projected earnings and compare them to traditional bank FD rates — framing the product as both modern and beneficial.
Since the investment was handled through a P2P NBFC partnership, it was crucial to build user trust in the background process. We used a step-by-step visual breakdown to explain how it works, paired with a 'Know More' CTA for users seeking deeper insights.
We also added a 'Things You Should Know' section at the end — addressing FAQs and linking to Support for real-time assistance. The goal throughout was to reduce hesitation, build confidence, and keep the experience approachable.
things we wanted to focus on the investment screen
Reinforcing Trust Through Transparency
One of our core goals with Wise was to build user trust – especially since we were handling money on their behalf. To do this, we designed the Portfolio screen to feel clear, transparent, and reassuring.
We credited daily interest directly to the user's account and made it visible in a dedicated Interest History section. This wasn't just about showcasing returns – it was a deliberate move to create a sense of continuous growth and reliability.
Alongside that, we added a simple breakdown modal showing the total invested, returns earned, and withdrawals – giving users a clear picture of their financial activity in just a glance. The entire flow was designed with the belief that transparency isn't a feature – it's a necessity when designing for trust.
wise portfolio and daily interest
wise phase 1 launch
Within a month of launch, Wise became the most preferable investment asset on our platform resulting in an AUM of more than 80 lakhs.
In the midst of the volatile market, our users found Wise as an stable investment option and around 30% of the users switched their automatic roundup investments from mutual funds and digital gold to Wise.
Upon talking to users, we got to know that users were also using Wise as a safe place to build their emergency fund. Crediting the daily interest into user's portfolio and quick withdrawals became two of the most promising factors that helped us gain the trust of our users in this new product.
Wise also emerged out as a preferred investment option for most of our users as it provided almost 2x returns to traditional bank FDs and lesser lock-in period. Compared to our P2P competitors, Wise provided better returns on investment and that too with very minimal ticket size of ₹100.
phase 2 of the project
After the successful launch of Wise, now it was time for us to work on retention and scale Wise to yet another level. We launched SIP in Wise a few weeks later to help our business in retaining the users. With SIP, users were now able to invest their money automatically on specified time intervals.
In Wise SIP, users can set the AutoPay for automatic periodic investments.
portfolio v2 + sip details
We wanted users to feel in control of their automated investments without being overwhelmed. When a user pauses their SIP, the interface dynamically and contextually adapts to show a 'Resume SIP' action right up front.
Launch and impact
Within 6 months of launch, Wise generated an AUM of more than 11 crores.
After 2 months of launch, AUM of Wise was more than 2.5X compared to the AUM of digital gold and mutual funds for those 2 months
30% of existing spenny users, switch their automatic roundup investments to Wise.
Learnings & Reflections
Transparency builds trust: Making returns and processes visible reassured users and encouraged adoption.
Small details matter: Micro-interactions and clear breakdowns helped users feel in control.
Continuous iteration: User feedback was crucial in shaping features like SIP and contextual actions.
